As a young environmentalist, Julia Butterfly Hill dedicated two years of her life to living one hundred and eighty feet above ground in a Giant Sequoia tree. Within the two years of occupying the tree, Hill summed up her experiences by saying, “There is no average day when you live in a tree.” Julia’s choice to live within this redwood, popularly recognized as “Luna,” may seem like a radical decision though she had justification; Hill was caught in the midst of a conflict with Pacific Lumber Company who had threatened to cut down the beloved Luna for profit.
