Aggressive Development The story “So I Ain’t No Good Girl”, by Sharon Flake is about a girl who dates a guy named Raheem, and she has several dilemmas that bring out the character in her. “So I Ain’t No Good Girl”, overall, is about a girl who dates a guy named Raheem, who abuses and cheats on her; but she keeps on dating him due to his popularity and her desire to make other girls feel jealous of their relationship. Throughout the story, she finds multiple girls that go after Raheem to steal him away from her, and she violently reacts towards these issues. At the end of the story, she seems to invoke a sense of acceptance that she can’t always keep Raheem to herself. The speaker shows many characteristics through her actions, such as having no strengths, some weaknesses, and her extreme selfishness. She talks and acts realistically, compared to modern day society. She grows and changes, in a way as to accept the truth, as a result of the story. She is not likable. She is a prominent staple in the story, in which the story would go way differently without her. Sharon uses realistic traits, relatable to modern day society, and an aggressive personality to portray the speaker in “So I Ain’t No Good Girl”.
