Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll is a Colombian singer-songwriter, dancer, record producer, choreographer, and model. She was born February 2, 1977 in Barranquillas, Colombia and is the youngest of eight siblings. Ever since she was very young, she wanted to make music and make a difference in the world. During the late 90’s, Shakira founded a non-profit foundation called The “Pies Descalzos” Foundation. With this foundation, among other things, she has helped thousands of families and children.
Shakira Isabel grew up with a mother whose ancestry is Spanish and Italian, and a father who is of Lebanese descent. The name Shakira, is Arabic for "grateful" or "full of grace”. Ever since she was 4 years old she wanted to perform. She discovered her passion for performing live when she danced at school every Friday.
