Blood tainted the hands of General John Chivington on the dark day of November 29, 1864 in the midst of the Civil War. His soldiers slaughtered an estimated 69-600 unsuspecting Cheyenne Native Americans consisting of men, women, and children. When asked about his thoughts on the massacre, General Nelson Miles responded by saying: “This is the foulest and most unjustifiable crime in the annals of America”. A multitude of people were involved in this massacre now known as the Sand Creek Massacre. The massacre was anything but sudden and unknown.
