Saint Juan Diego Juan Diego was born on 1474 in Cuautitlan, now known as Mexico City. His original name was Cuauhtlatoatzin which stands for “the flying eagle.” Juan growing up grew up under Aztec religious practices which included human sacrifice. When he became an adult he made his living as a weaver, farmer, and laborer. At the age of 50, he and his wife where only a few Aztec to convert to Catholicism. Juan Diego would get up at dawn and walk 15 miles to mass in what is now known as Mexico City. As he was walking past Tepeyac Hill on his way to mass Juan discovered a glowing cloud with a rainbow around it. Juan heard a ladies voice call out to him.
