To be a war hero one must make the ultimate sacrifice. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways. One may sacrifice themselves to save the lives of their fellow comrades. One may risk their own safety and security to complete the mission. One may have so much patriotism for their country, they will die fighting for it. Often becoming a hero of war is an honor many never live to see. These individuals decide to sacrifice everything tell have for a cause they believe. Often times this means they will never see the light of day again, whether they know it or not.

His readiness to jump on opportunity pledge his allegiance the Confederate cause is an act of heroism, at to anyone who is on his side.
Walt Whitman’s poem “Oh Captain! My Captain!” demonstrates how sacrifices can have a mournful effect on people. This poem is thought to honor Abraham Lincoln and it indicates perfectly how Lincoln’s decisions were praised but also how much he will be missed.
Lincoln’s passion for what is right leads him to some very difficult decisions throughout his
Presidency. Ultimately these choices lead to his assassination. Even if not his intention
Lincoln has been honored as a war hero. The mournful sorrowful tone of “Oh Captain! My
Captain” demonstrates this. Whitman and others like him were so distraught to hear the news of Lincoln’s passing that they treat it like the death of a Captain who brought the crew back home to safety. This is much like a General who leads his men to victory and out of harms way, but is killed in the process all because he wanted the best for his men, just as Lincoln wanted the best for America.
A war hero can be anyone. Anyone who is killed in combat fighting for their country
