Richard Wagner Was born in Leipzig Germmay in 1813, his father Carl Fried Wagner was a clerk in the local police station and his mother Johanna Rosine (nee Paetz) was the daughter of a baker. Wilhelm Richard Wagner was the ninth addition to the family and later became known for his works as a German composer, conductor, director in theatre, and polemicist. Within the first six months of his life Wagner lost his father to typhus. The following year his mother was said to have remarried actor and playwright Ludwig Geyer and relocated in Dresden. In 1820 Richard attended Pastor Wetzel’s school in Possendorf receiving piano lessons that would build the foundation to his many achievements. Wagner was influenced by many great composers such as
