Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts. She went to Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in South Hadley for only a year. Dickinson was a very introverted person in her life time, but the people that she did meet impacted her life more than she could imagine. The person that probably impacted her life the most was the Reverend Charles Wadsworth. She met him on a trip to Philadelphia. He took a trip back to the west coast shortly after a visit to her home in 1860, some believe his departure gave rise to the heartfelt flow of the verses from Dickinson in the many years that followed.
