I recently got to read about the life of Reba McEntire through her autobiography, “My Story”. Reba wrote it along with Tom Carter. It consists of 303 pages with some of the best moments of her greatest achievements and some of the worst moments with tragic loses and heartbreaks she has gone through in her life of becoming an award-winning country music singer. Reba, known as the “Queen of Country” was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on March 28, 1955. She was born into a family of champion steer ropers and spent her childhood traveling with her family to their father’s world championship rodeo performances and spending days working cattle with her ranching family. They were known as “The Singing McEntires”. She got her big break after singing the “Star Spangled Banner” at the National Finals Rodeo in 1974 after country music star, Red Steagall heard her sing. From then on out she started recording and signed with Mercury Records. Reba faced a rocky start as people did not care for women country singers back in the day. But she overcame it and launched an amazing career. During the 80’s Reba started singing different styles than what she was used to and went from a rough-edged looking girl to a more prompt woman. Reba has won many awards from “Female Vocalist of the Year” and “Entertainer of the Year” by the CMA. Reba married Charlie Battles in 1976 but after her music career really began to soar, their marriage collapsed. Besides touring and making top selling records, she loved her family, friends and band members very much. She did a lot to help other people in need and started many charities. After her divorce she moved to Tennesse and eventually married her manager, Narvel Blackstock. They baught a house and started a fresh start from both being recently divorced.
