Being a good leader is an attribute that many people may look for in hiring someone for a job or someone to look up to. In Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo shows leadership in a few ways. Nelson Mandela is also a man that shows great leadership qualities which is shown in the movie Invictus and Mandela’s biography Long Walk to Freedom. Both Okonkwo and Mandela went through times that made them stronger people. Mandela was arrested for treason and when he got out of prison, he was stronger than before and stood up for what he believed was right. When Okonkwo was arrested and got out of prison, he was strong, but didn’t use his struggles in jail to push him to do better things. Mandela used his struggles from being in prison in a more useful and effective way. Although Okonkwo was a good leader, Mandela showed to be a stronger leader in quite a few ways.…show more content…
An example of when Okonkwo got mad easily, was when he got upset at his son when he converted to the missionaries. Okonkwo yelled at Nwoye when he came home one night. He asked him where he was and began to choke him until someone tells Okonkwo to let the boy go. When Okonkwo gets mad, people may not look at him as a leader. He yells and hurts people which may not make people want to follow in his direction. Nelson Mandela stays very calm almost all the time.
