A Radiologist is a type of doctor that determines a patient's situation through images, like x-rays or MRIs and deals with radiation treatments. I want to be a Radiologist because I love to help and care for people. I wish to specialize in Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Neuroradiology, Head and Neck Radiology, Breast Imaging, Cardiovascular Radiology, Chest Radiology, or Emergency Radiology (“Professions in Diagnostic Radiology” 1). I am fascinated by the human heart, brain, nervous system, musculoskeletal system, and cancers of the human body. The most important daily work activities include making decisions, use of computers, documentation and recording of data and information, communication with others, explanations, giving of medical advice, judgement of outcomes, teaching others, estimating cost, materials needed, and time, and be able to make and follow schedules (“Common Work Activities” 1). Radiologist have multiple physical demands, as do most doctors. Radiologist most frequently sit and stand for long periods of time and use steady hands to deal with certain objects. Important and almost necessary physical demands include: having good eyesight, speaking clearly, listening, and the ability to use your hands well (“Physical Demands” 1). Radiologist also work in stressful working conditions, mentally and physically. Radiologist work set schedules, about 40 hours a week, nights and weekends, and have strict deadlines (“Working Conditions” 1). Such interest include realistic, social, and investigative interests (“Interests and Values” 1). Radiologist must also have the values of achievement, recognition, support, independence, relationships, and good working conditions important in becoming successful (“Interest and Values” 1). Most Radiologist are required to communicate clearly, reason and solve problems, use science and math, manage time, and people, and work with people and objects to help with work (“Skills and Abilities” 1). Radiologist must go further than just a high school education to do well in their field. Radiologist have a long list of education in certain areas like, Physics, Biology, Psychology, Mathematics like Algebra, English, Medicine and Dentistry, Education and Training, Computers and Electronics, Customer and Personal Service, and Public Safety and Security (“Knowledge” 1). With every career you wish to pursue, there are multiple different helpful high school courses. Courses that are offered at Ste. Genevieve High School that will help prepare for college include; Algebra, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Applications, and Physics (“Helpful High School Courses” 1). Most high jobs require some type of licensing or certification, like Radiologist. Radiologist are required by all states in the U.S. to be licensed,
