In the novel, Purple Hibiscus, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Kambili’s household is dictated by Papa Eugene. Papa is a strict man who controls everything his family does, and becomes violent when life does not go exactly the way he wants it to. Additionally, Eugene has a set of rules for his family to follow that come with consequences for when the rules are broken.
