In Christianity and Islam, sacred texts are important as they are useful sources of information about the different kinds of peace. Principal teachings are another example of how varieties of peace can be displayed. Inner peace and world peace are two prime examples of peace which are shown through sacred texts and principal teachings. In Christianity the Bible is a sacred text that outlines the peace that Jesus brings. The Golden Rule that Jesus' states is "do unto others as you would have done unto you” which means in order to receive peace, you must act peacefully to others. A key principal teaching is to respect all humans; as everyone is equal, this includes one's enemies. Romans 12:18 "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone" demonstrates the peace that Jesus wants us to bring to one another. In Christianity, they have a monotheistic belief. God believes in peace and harmony and the world to be peaceful and there is evidence of this through Genesis; "as stewards of the earth it’s our duty to respect and care for the earth and all aspects of creation." In the Qur'an peace is mentioned 67 times, which is evidence of how much the role of peace plays in the lives of the people of Islam. The Qur'an is the 'fundamental text for all Muslims' and contains the revelation of Allah. "In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the most compassionate." This verse is the very first verse in the Qur'an. This verse is evidence of how important mercy and compassion is to the people of Islam. Principal teachings in Islam strongly support peace and in Islam, they regard the mission of the Prophet Muhammad as one of "peace and mercy" to mankind. (21:107).
