Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is the 266th pope of the Roman Catholic Church and the first pope from the Americas. He was born on December 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was born and raised in Argentina, and later became the archbishop of Buenos Aires. Because of this, he was the cardinal that represented Argentina as the Roman Catholic Church of Argentina from 1998 to 2013. Then, on March 13, 2013, he was elected to be Pope after Pope Benedict XVI retired. When he was elected to be Pope, he picked the name Pope Francis because of St. Francis of Assisi of Italy. A way that we can see that Pope Francis fits the description of the People’s Pope is that, for example, he has a meeting with a person of hierarchy, meaning that the person has some sort of power, he prefers to cancel the meeting and instead have a meeting with the poor people and talk to them and get to know them. Another example is that when he is in the Popemobile going through the streets waving at people, if he sees a disabled person, he makes the driver stop. Then, he goes to the disabled person and bless the person. Then, he noticed a ten-year-old disabled boy, named Michael Keating that has cerebral palsy, which had rosary beads in his hand. Then, he decided to stop and went up to his family to bless Michael and greet his family. Another example is that in everywhere he went, he always bless every children, especially babies and disabled children.
