Introduction
Attention Getter: I came from a country far along the Atlantic and the Pacific ocean. I was a child born in the midst of boys who wanted to be involved in everything.
Link: Upon arriving in the United States, I fell in love with computers. I later made up my mind to be a computer engineer. With such dreams of mine, I got a call on this particular day from a friend in Nigeria. We talked and he later asked me what I wanted to do with my life, joyfully I told him I wanted to be a computer engineer. I felt this sudden silence and shock on the phone, he made a comment to me by saying“But you are a woman, Engineering is a man…show more content… Transition: The society we are in has many values and different outlooks on many things. Gender roles means how we’re expected to act, groom, and conduct ourselves based upon our assigned sex.
In our current engineering field there are plenty of outdated gender roles enforced in them which is very discriminating towards our females. When we go back into the way our society and the way our culture was built in, we would see many problems when it comes to the issue of gender.
Females are often are generally expected to dress in typically feminine ways and act polite, accommodating, and nurturing. Men are generally expected to be strong, aggressive, and bold. When we look at the engineering field, many often see it as a job that requires a lot of work and action which can be seen as a guy’s job. A male engineer in the article “Engineering ignorance” by Franzway, advised that “it is probably politically incorrect to say that perhaps females aren't interested in building things”. Females are as fiery as the sun. According to Denise in the article “Female Engineer Discrimination” she stated that “In term projects, women engineers find themselves holding the traditional role of secretary rather than building the…show more content… Thesis Statement:
The believe that engineering is not a women’s job, or the assumption that u need only math and science to be successful in engineering should not be place in the engineering field because it does not show the important role we all play to make this world a nice one to live in.
.Clincher: I want to take us back to the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote, it was a period of time that many women await, therefore I am here to let you know that Strong women stand together when things are rough. I want to urge every female here to challenge themselves in every way, to make our men see that we are capable of doing it all.
