There are two systems that regulate homeostasis: endocrine and nervous systems. The endocrine system, for example, maintains blood sugar. The pancreas either releases insulin or glucagon depending if the blood sugar is high or low. This tells the other tissues on how to react and bring the level back to normal. The nervous system also manages homeostasis. There are many nerves all around our body and they are waiting to detect any change in our internal and external environment. When it does detect an abnormality, it sends chemical signals through a synapse to other nerve cells. They travel quickly to the brain, which acts as a command center, and then the brain will signal the other body systems to help offset the abnormality, thus bringing it back to the set point. 4. The pituitary gland is a very small gland in the back of the brain that is attached to the hypothalamus through nerve fibers. The pituitary gland regulates many of the other glands in the endocrine system. The hypothalamus releases hormones which stimulate the pituitary gland to release their hormones. Some examples of the hormones that the pituitary gland releases is: he anterior pituitary lobe will release adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which stimulates cortisol production in the adrenal gland. The pituitary gland also releases what is known as antidiuretic hormones…show more content…
The two types of glands are exocrine and endocrine glands. Endocrine glands release substances such as hormones directly into the bloodstream or to the tissues of the body. For example, the pineal gland is located in the brain and it secretes melatonin in response to a dark environment. It is released directly into the bloodstream and into the surrounding tissues. Exocrine glands release their products, almost always enzymes, into ducts which lead to the intended tissue. For example, the salivary gland releases saliva into ducts which leads to the mouth so that the mouth can begin the digestion process in the human
