Xafsa Shute English I Period 6 June 3, 2013 Essay Prompt - In Class Final In the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part time Indian by Sherman Alexie, Characters from the book expressed integrity . Westbrook High School has three words that serve as the main concepts perseverance, aspirations , and integrity . My experience from this school is similar to those of Mr.P Integrity It is when someone lives up to a certain code or a certain standard of behavior. Whether or not people will know what they have done. You can also show integrity just admitting to your mistakes, it’s doing the right thing. Simple examples of this would be someone who doesn't steal even if they know they won't get caught, or someone won't cheat on a test even if the teacher will never find out. Arnold opens the first page of the book and sees inscribed in the book, “This book belongs to Agnes Adams.” Agnes Adams is his mother, which meant the book was over thirty years old. Infuriated at this point, Arnold throws the book at Mr. P and breaks his nose. After that Arnold is suspended for a week. Mr.P stops by to visit Arnold. Mr.P says “-what happens is what you really did. And you broke an old man’s nose. That’s almost unforgivable.” (pg 35) and says “But I do forgive you” (pg 35) . Mr.P admits that during when he just starting teaching, that he and the other teachers used to beat the children "We were supposed to kill the Indian to save the child" (Pg 35). But what he meant was try to kill Indian culture. Mr. P has done things in his life that he is not proud of, things he has done to Indians, and felt he deserved the pain, the same pain that he inflicted on Indians long ago. Mr P recommends Arnold to go to Reardan, and to never give up on his drawing and cartoons, and to not end up how Arnold’s sister
