Course Video Critique 3: Parole: Getting Out and Staying Out Summary: In the video, “Parole: Getting Out and Staying Out,” discusses what it is like being in prison and hardships that follow them into freedom. Life in prison is always tough, but those who finally finish there sentences and get into parole would find it even hard to live and support themselves. For staying in prison for so long has created a system where inmates actually prefer to integrate back into prison and not in society, even if they desire not to go back to prison. While on parole, inmates are constantly monitored and guided to prevent them getting back into prison. However, there is a high turnout of those in parole coming back to prison for bad criminal habits. To combat returning inmates, programs were created in order to teach and help inmates build skills and have confidence into being successful outside of prison. There are many programs designed to help inmates get back into society, with rehabilitation programs, it is possible to help inmates in giving a specific treatment for their own specific problems. According to Gideon and Sung (2011) explains, that CBT programs help in promoting prosocial behaviors so that they can apply it to their own lives without resorting to criminal activities (pg. 74). Parole is somewhat the same way in having supervision and provide help to inmates to give them tips and to lead them to the right direction. However, while the video did apply on how they implemented these programs to help inmates, it didn't provide clarity on some reasons on why these programs are not as working as intended. It is difficult to understand if the quality of the program was at fault or other factors such as the timing or frequency of involvement created for
