Cyberbullying is on the rise. We have heard about it more and more in the last few years. According to Jan Hoffman’s article “Online Bullies Pull Schools Into the Fray, a guidance counselor at Benjamin Franklin Middle Schools says, “The seventh-grade guidance counselor says she can spend up to three-fourths of her time mediating conflicts that began online or through text messages.” (1) This is becoming a rising issue. Jan Hoffman is trying to make that issue known to the public. Also she is getting interviews with people who are on both sides of the issue of wither or not schools should discipline students who are cyberbullying if it is done outside of school. Many parents of victims of cyberbullying are in favor of students being punished for cyberbullying, however schools have their hands tied.…show more content… No parent likes to see their kids get hurt in anyway. They would like to see the people who hurt their child come to justice. Now these parents are going after the schools to seek that justice. They want the schools to punish the child that hurt theirs. It is understandable. I mean who wouldn’t want their child to have justice. This author is going after the heart strings of other parents. Jan Hoffman even says as much when she says, “Affronted by cyberspace’s escalation of adolescent viciousness, many parents are looking to schools for justice, protection, even revenge.” (1) More and more parents are getting angry.
