Neonatal Nurse Practitioner interests me because I love to care for babies. My whole life I have loved to help and take care of babies. When I was 22 months old my brother Brady was born and he was in and out of the hospital. He has a lot of health issues. I have always been by his side caring for him. I have been a babysitter since I was 13. When my older brother and his wife had a child, I would stay home and help my mom take care of her. Instead of going outside and playing with friends I would’ve rather stayed inside to care for her. Neonatal nurse practitioners are registered nurses that provide care to newborn babies. They ensure babies are healthy and able to go home. Being a nurse practitioner they are able to administer medications, perform tests, and record the baby's vitals. They assess, supervise, and manage the progress of their patients. There are three levels of neonatal nursing: level one- care for healthy infants, level two- care for premature and sick babies, level three- care for seriously ill and/or premature babies. Neonatal nurse practitioners do several jobs, such as delivering and transporting babies and mothers, resuscitating infants after birth, administering medications, changing diapers and handling new babies for comfort and caring for their needs.…show more content…
First, obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Next, obtain an RN license by passing the exam. Then, one will need to have three or more years of working on the neonatal unit. After those three years complete an accredited nurse practitioner program. Then, take the national certification exam with a passing grade. Finally, get certified in neonatal resuscitation, and CPR certified. It is a long process, but it is worth doing to get a job that you will love doing in the end. It will probably take eight to ten years to achieve, but while you are in the process you're getting
