The movie Nova: Decoding Neanderthals really proved that the Neanderthals were in fact ancestors to us Homo Sapiens. For many years now people thought that Neanderthals looked like and were dumbed down, hairy, crouching, cavemen looking versions of Homo Sapiens, but from what researchers have found in this video that is extremely wrong. Researchers in the video found that Homo Sapiens originated from Africa and Neanderthals likely originated from Europe. The researchers decided to compare Neanderthal genomes to Homo Sapien genomes in 5 different ethnic groups. They found that Neanderthal genomes were closer to Europeans and Asians than Africans. While these studies were founded it still altogether showed that Neanderthals were in fact our ancestors.
