The National Imagery and Mapping Agency(NIMA) was first created in 1996 with that our nation created the much needed critical mass of skill and technologies under a single mission umbrella. With the creation of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency(NGA) in the year 2003, this area took another leap forward in allowing us integration multiple sources of information, intelligence and tradecrafts.The change of name from NIMA to NGA had little to do with semantics and much to do with achieving greater insight into GEOINT.Using this new paradigm, intelligence professionals were better able to exploit and analyze imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess and visually depict physical features and human activity on the Earth.
