The PDE Standards and the National Core Standards are both beneficial to any music classroom, but each has different aspects which make it unique. While both standards categorize the knowledge that should be mastered by grade level, the National Core Standards include input on every grade level or classify the grades with titles such as "novice" and "intermediate", while the PDE Standards only include information about what a student should know by grades 3, 5, 8, and 12. Also, both have lengthy and extensive sections for main areas of educational development in students (creating, performing, responding, and connecting for the National Standards and performance, history, critical response and aesthetic response for the PDE Standards).
