The Evolution of Mustangs The signature roar of a Mustang would call any car enthusiast. Wouldn’t you long to be behind the wheel of a Mustang? When the Mustang was created, they changed the car industry forever. It all started with an idea to make a sports car that was both affordable and light. After a series of prototypes, the first line of Mustang’s was released in 1964. They have gone through many changes both inside and out, but Mustang will always have a place in car history. The creator of the Mustang is Lee Iacocca. He was born on October 15, 1924. Before he created the Mustang, he had a couple of jobs. His first job was helping run his father’s business. It was very different from other cars simply because it’s a muscle car that came in two different styles; the coupe and the convertible. A muscle car was “American-made 2-door sports cars with powerful engines made for high-performance driving”. People were very excited about the release of the Mustang because Ford promoted it extensively. They showed commercials at the same time on all of the major networks. The Mustangs had leather bucket seats; it had two doors, but sat four. It also had door to door carpet. The Mustangs had a sport like steering feeling. All of this was achieved with a price tag of $2,500.00. All of these features made it a success, by its first anniversary there were 418,812 sold. In 1967 the first major change occurred in the Mustang. A larger engine was placed; it had 320 horse power, and a 390 cid engine. The versions are the Fastback, California Special, and High Country Special. The Mustang was redesigned to look more muscular and less aerodynamic. The 1969 Mustang was the first car to have high beams and had quad headlamps. The Fastback was replaced by the Sports Roof model. The V-8 engine was standard, but Ford made 2 special versions. The Mustang Boss 302 and Boss 429, they were a limited edition car because it was a racing muscle car so they only made about 2,000. The “Boss 429 had a Semi-Hemi 429 engine; it had special trim, special carpet, dual racing mirrors, special side strips, pop open gas cap, and dual exhaust”.
