The lights slowly creep across the stage and we see two middle-aged women huddled under a tree where a dead body lies. A ghostly figure is seen crossing the stage; her skin is pale as the sheets that once covered her bed. CHARLOTTE: Death is supposed to be the end. Everyone lives, everyone dies. When I was a little girl my thoughts of what happened after death consisted of pearly white gates where my deceased loved ones greeted me. How wrong I was? This isn’t death nor is this heaven. It’s me living between heaven and hell. No one can hear me here, it’s cold dark and my worst nightmares surround me. A funeral Mass. A coffin rests at the front of the church, adorned with a framed photograph of Charlotte. It’s a miserable day; the sun hides behind the ever-darkening clouds and those on stage are wearing blacks and grey. The congregation is a mixture of students in school uniform and family. The casket is center stage with a single light. Students in private school uniform walk across the stage and sit on church pews. The congregation is silent, straining to hold back sobs. Paul, a church usher, plays BOB DYLAN’S MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE, as some of Charlotte’s friends give their testimonials. Angie, Charlotte’s best friend walks across the stage to center stage, the splint on her left leg prevents her from walking
