Charles Marlow and Jim Burden are both men who lives change due to what the circumstances that they were faced with. These two men are characterize by what choices they made and it reflected their lives as well as having consequences for the future. Even though, they are two men that have many similarities, they also have differences especially in the journey that they took. This journey have changed them in three different ways; the impact it had on their lives, the encounter with various ‘reality instructors”, and the fascination with another person who greatly affected their view of themselves and human nature. Marlow’s fascination with Mr. Kurtz was based on what others told him about him and every time he heard of him, his fascination grew. However, when he finally meets Kurtz, sick and deteriorated his name is what keeps Marlow fascinated with him, “Well, the name was as true as everything else in his life-and death” (Darkness 54). Moreover, Marlow sees what the journey he has taken, has effected Mr. Kurtz health and feels a need to help, this sick, dyeing man. In contrast, Burden knew and talked to the person who he was fascinated with; Antonia. Antonia is that older women a younger man sees as untouchable because the age differences will always remain against them. Burden fascination with Antonia changed him in many ways that directed him to a brighter future. His fascination for her made Antonia live in his life, even though they were not together. She was more than a fascination, she was a space in his heart and in his past that no one will ever occupy. “Whatever we had missed, we possessed together the precious, the incommunicable past [and future] (Antonia 251). With that being said, Burden fascination for Antonia changes his life in every way
