You have probably heard of great leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln. Rosa Parks and George Washington, too. Well, Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela were also great leaders that made an impact on the world. They freed so many people and they believed that everyone deserves freedom. They both worked hard for their freedom. Although both authors presented well, Gandhi’s text was more persuasive because he affected more people (people all over India), was a little more peaceful, and he left a spark or a memory in his people’s hearts. In Gandhi’s story, the author stated all of the good things. On contrary, he never stated his failures. In paragraph 7 it says, “In South Africa, a man who tried to fulfill his duty to his people was inevitably ripped from his family and his home and was forced to live a life apart, a twilight existence of secrecy and rebellion. I did not in the beginning choose to place my people over my family, but in attempting to serve my people, I found that I was prevented from serving my obligations as a son, a brother, a father, and a husband.” In this paragraph he talks about how his commitment to help retrieve his country’s freedom affected his family. He also feels kind of guilty about it. In paragraph 8 it says, “In that way, my commitment to my people, to the millions of South Africans I would never know or meet, was at the expense of the people I knew best and loved most. ” In the last paragraph he talks about how he had made many mistakes along the way and that he still had a ‘long walk to freedom’ ahead of him to go. He states many of the mistakes he’s made along his life. Gandhi’s text was more persuasive because he affected more people, was a little more peaceful, and he left a spark or a memory in his people’s hearts. Also, Gandhi’s story was written by the point of view of another person and of how that person thought of him. The author talks very highly of him and states many of his accomplishments in the story, not mentioning a single flaw. However, Mandela’s story was written by himself. Although both men were exceptional leaders who did their very best, Gandhi’s text was more persuasive because he affected more people. He made an impact on people all over India. He was also a bit more peaceful because he would treat everyone fairly and talk to them in such a gentle way. Plus, he left a spark or a memory in his people’s hearts. That’s why he was loved by many people and he was never forgotten. Now when you remember of great leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln, you will remember Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela and how they were great leaders who inspired us
