The film's storyline happens between 19921995, starting with scenes from the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. Hilary Swank assumes the part of Erin Gruwell, another, energized teacher who leaves the security of the place where she grew up, Newport Beach, to educate at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, an once in the past high accomplishing school which has as of late had a reconciliation system put set up.
