For my essay I have chosen the song Longest Time written and performed by Billy Joel. This song was released as a single in 1984. It reached 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song is in the genre of doo-wop. There are only two musical instruments in this song a bass guitar and a snare drum that is being played with brushes so it produces a sort of shake sound. The song itself is in the key of E-flat Major and is in the binary form. It is in the time signature of 2/4 or Cut-time. The Longest Time is filled with a great amount of chords and is extremely harmonic. This song also uses small amounts of dissonance.
