The motion picture “John Q” can generally be summarized as a man (John Q) who cannot afford his son’s heart transplant and will not be placed on the donor list. John Q then decides to take the issue into his own hands, after countlessly being denied by his health insurance and the hospital’s funding department, by holding workers and innocent civilians hostage in the hospital’s emergency room. Thinking from a Kantian’s perspective this situation seems a bit tricky on the spectrum of ethicality. Although, John Q never intended to cause any harm to the innocent victims, this situation still raises many ethical questions that contains many conflicting variables when being compared on a scale of immorality to morality.
