One denotation of “leader” is a person who leads or commands a group or organization. This definition leaves substantial room to wonder about the “quality” of a leadership. An acclaimed leader has specific skill sets, such as courage, intelligence, kindness, and valor. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding there are two main leaders. Ralph and Jack are polar opposites, but they have the same goal of sustaining the welfare of their tribe. Jack is the superior leader in many important ways including being a better organizer with a higher intelligence level. He has a way of justifying his actions even when they are cruel.
