In the poem Insomnia Collins did a great job presenting sleeplessness. He made the speaker dream and imagine things that weren’t actually there. Collins made it so that the reader could visualize what the speaker was seeing while he was sleep deprived. Collins showed examples of what people in the real world do when they are tired, count sheep. But Collins went above and beyond by making the speaker feel like he was part of his imagination, the speaker would start to see things that no regular person would see when they’re tired. Collins made the speaker count more than one animal because the speaker was still not sleeping, like when the speaker was counting wildebeests, snails, camels and so on. Collins presented sleeplessness by making the speaker imagine Noah’s ark and counting all the animals that went on his ark while watching Noah and the animals float away while the speaker laid there. There is plenty of imagery in this poem just like in Insomnia except this one felt more suspenseful. Collins portrayed sleeplessness in this poem as if there was something always going on in the speaker's mind and the speaker just couldn’t sleep because his mind was just one huge ball of energy. Collins used the example of someone on a tricycle going round and round on his brain at the same pace. This poem’s poetic devices consist of a lot of imagery. But Collins was amazing with the certain words he used to create the tone.
