IRIS!!!
Hello my name Is Milenka Eterovic and today i am going to tell you a little bit more about the rainbow goddess Iris, but first you need to know… What is a myth? A myth is a story that usually includes a conflict as well as a solution explaining why we have things. Because people back then did not have the technology and scientific tools that could explain what used to be unexplainable.
Who is Iris? Iris is the goddess of the rainbow, the messenger of the Olympian gods. She was often known as the handmaiden and personal messenger of Hera (goddess of marriage).…show more content… Iris travels with the speed of light from one end of the world to the other and down into the depths of the sea (Poseidon's territory) and the Underworld (Hades’ territory). Iris waters the clouds with her pitcher. She also delivers to the gods the sacred water of the River Styx. What does Iris look like in myth? Iris is portrayed as a rainbow or a goddess with golden wings on her shoulders. She carries a winged staff or a caduceus (ca·du·cei) which is a short herald's staff entwined by two serpents and surrounded by wings. She has been described by people as "swift-footed like a storm wind". She was known as a beautiful young woman, sometimes known with holding a water pitcher. Sometimes Iris takes on the role of a cupbearer, in which case she is often indistinguishable from the cupbearer goddess Hebe. Where can iris be found in mythological art? Iris can often be found next to Hera and/or Zeus in art as their…show more content… Many Greeks believed that the rainbow’s arc, connecting clouds and the sea, represented Iris’ path or journey as she went from her home above to collect water from the sea in order to replenish clouds that had rained. The Goddess has no specific myths of her own, she instead often appears as a messenger for the gods when they need one.

Depending on the myth, she is either depicted as a virgin or as being married to Zephyros, the god of the west wind. Is Iris one of the 12 gods and goddess of olympus? Though Iris was not one of the twelve gods or goddesses of olympus she was still very important to the mythological world.
What made her special? She was one of the very few Olympians who were able to travel down into the underworld. Where It was the rainbow Goddesses job to collect for the swearing solemn oaths. As Goddess of the rainbow she joined the human realm to the place of the Gods. she restored calm and balance to the forces of nature after a rough storm. Does Iris have any kids? no, Iris does not have any kids of her
