In the story “The Pedestrian” written by Ray Bradbury, he uses characterization and symbolism in a futuristic society to show the loss of individualism by overuse of controlled technology. Leonard expresses how walking through the city was “... not unequal to walking through a graveyard… (and) sudden grey phantoms seemed to manifest upon inner room walls…” (Bradbury 1).
