Because Twain makes the main character Huck live in the South before civil war, Huck experiences difficulty in making the right choice because of the time period he is living in. At that time slavery is was a normal thing in the South slaves were viewed as property. Huck helps a slave (Jim) escape throughout the journey to Jim’s freedom Huck is having terrible deciding rather he’s making the right choice by helping Jim escape. In chapter 31 Huck decide to write a letter to Jim owner saying “Miss Watson, your runaway nigger Jim is down here two mile below Pikesville, and Mr. Phelps has got him and he will give him up for the reward if you send.
