Plato was born in 427 BCE and died in 347 BCE some scholars estimate. He is considered one of the best known and most widely read and studied philosophers. Anyone who thinks about philosophy at all either is a Platonist or Aristotelian. Alfred North Whitehead, an English philosopher, once said, “The safest general characterization of the European philosophical tradition is that it consists of a series of footnotes on Plato.” Plato was a student of Socrates and believed we had knowledge of the truth. Plato contributions to this world were his teachings about the forms, the spirit, and his impact on religion. Even though Plato was a philosopher, he did impact religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam either directly through his teachings
