The song I chose to write about is Hotline Bling by Drake and written by Jayson Greene. The mood presented in this song is one of sadness and almost regret. The mental image conveyed is that Drake has left his girlfriend behind in Toronto, his hometown, and still wants to be with her, while she has moved on and changed a lot. Drake is able to convey these feelings through his lyrics and the elements of music he is using.
The most influential element used in this song is the timbre. Drake’s voice is very warm and generally bright to me. He seems to be wondering how his old girl changed so much over the years.
