Histophilus somni is one of the important causative agents of BRD accounting from 14% to more than 40% of feedlot mortalities (22)(23). In addition to respiratory infections H. somni causes thromboembolic meningoencephalitis, septicaemia, myocarditis, arthiritis and abortion(11). Antimicrobial such as tetracycline (oxytetracycline, chlortetracyclines), macrolides (tilmicosin, tulathromycin, tylosin), quinolones (enrofloxacin, danofloxacin), cephalosporins (ceftiofur), spectinomycin, florfenicol, penicilin are routinely used in feedlot cattle for treatment, prevention and growth promotion(5).
