Hera was the queen of the Ancient Greek Gods, Zeus wife and sister. She was also the daughter of the Titans Cronus and Rhea and the sister of Poseidon, Hades, Hestia and Demeter. Was the goddess of the marriage, women, childbirth, kings and empires. She was the mother of the war god Ares, the youth goddess Hebe and the forge god Hephaestus. Her daughter, Ilithyia, was the goddess of childbirth. Ilithyia, a daughter of Hera’s, assisted women in childbirth. In Ancient Rome Hera was called Juno. Her sacred animals were the cow, the lion and the peacock. Hera's symbols were the diadem, the scepter and the pomegranate and her flower was the lily. In the images and statues that represent Hera, is portrayed as being majestic and solemn, crowned with the polos, a high cylindrical crown worn by many of the Great Goddesses. Sometimes also is represented with a pomegranate, another of her symbols. According to the Roman poet Ovid, the month June had been named like this to honor Juno, the Roman name of Hera. Hera hated the hero Heracles since he was the son of her husband Zeus. When he was a baby, Hera sent snakes and dangerous animals to attack him in his crib. Say the myth, that the creation of the Milky Way was because of the drops of milk that Hera threw when Heracles was suckling. All this was organized by Zeus.
