Sleep health, the reasons why is it so important? Sleep is defined as the natural delay of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored. Healthy People 2020, a national campaign geared at setting goals and objectives with a 10-year target; which is designed to guide national health promotion and disease prevention efforts that seeks to improve the health of all people in the United States. One of the objectives of Healthy People 2020 is sleep health. The campaign seeks to bring awareness to the general public on how the lack of adequate sleep can affect our overall health. With increased public knowledge on sleep health, people will realized the benefits of adequate sleep and that the treatment of sleep disorders can greatly improve our health, productivity, wellness, safety on the roads and in the workplace, and overall our quality of life. A good night’s sleep is something we all value. Scientific studies, as well as our own experience prove that it replenishes our strength by giving us renewed energy to be at our best. It has been proven it significantly affects our health and emotional well-being, especially the children. Yet still, a good night’s rest is something that has eluded many of us. Fighting the 24/7 technological society, one needs to established clear boundaries; where sleep is concern. Identifying the common factors that alters the quality of sleep is the first step in taking charge. Making adjustments to daily routine can significantly enhance your sleep quality and quantity. Such adjustments maybe, having a regular schedule for sleep, using the bedroom only for sleep, and making positive lifestyle choices; plays a great part in how well one sleeps or not
