Chicago has a rich history of architecture structures embed throughout the city. The Harold Washington library is one of the unique building structures in the city that incorporates the past and present designs. When people see the building for the first time then they might notice the bricks and stone walls around the building which is like the past structures design. In class we discuss about how the most Chicago buildings from the past had big base structures to display the building strength. When entering inside of the building it had a lot of white paintings on the walls and the ceilings. It shows the white city concept from the past. The artificial light help to expand the building space and made the walls pop a little. The well polish stone floors help to spread more light throughout the building as well. The building had a lot of natural stones on the floors to express the natural feeling in the building. The stones had a lot of lines and waves to might express the lake water waves and tall grass blown in the wind in the past. The different color of stones is some areas help to modern feeling as well because it the new style instead of plain white color before. Yet the inside of the building had a lot of light gray stones which can have a dull area. The glass panels helps to brighten up the dull area by brightening up the room and expanding the space of the building. The outside of the building the walls had steel beams vertical on the side. It is a way to the new style of architecture design. The building shows an impressive technological advancement by showing to support a heavy beams on the side of the
