Do you ever feel like your living the same day over and over again? Phil Connors (Bill Murray) can relate in the 1993 film “Groundhog Day”. This film written by Harold Ramis is a romantic comedy that keeps the audience guessing, but also makes them reflect on themselves. Phil is a stuck up guy, that only worries about his own problems and doesn’t think about how he is affecting others. After visiting Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania he gets caught in a “time loop” and relives the same day over again, so many times that there is a debate on how long he was actually in this loop. This scene depicts Phil’s life throughout the first half of the movie. He is talking with some local guys and asks, “what would you do if you were stuck in one place, and every day was exactly the same, and if nothing that you did mattered” (). This scene shows Phil’s struggle with society and his attitude toward life. He feels like he is nothing and nothing that he does matters. It is one of the leading factors that cause the change in Phil. At first Phil “loves” Rita, but it seems to be more of a lust. His drive to seduce her into his bed leads him to learn all that he can about her. This drive eventually changes and he becomes more driven to help others, like previously stated. He learns all that he can about the people and events of Punxsutawney. His new love of others leads him to do things that he would have never dreamed of doing in his old self. He saves a young boy who falls out of a tree, saves a man from choking, and even saves a marriage. His love of Rita made him reflect on his own life and ultimately save himself. I believe his fate was to be with Rita and true love broke the curse. It may not be as evident as in other movies such as Shrek and Sleeping Beauty, but it had to be one of the causes for the break in the
