Friendship plays a key role in understanding others. Acquaintance is the first step in meeting a person, and when the bond grows, friendship develops. The connection formed gives a new perspective on each other’s personalities. As the relationship progresses, between two friends, the faults in each other’s character are exposed, leading to a change in their habits which results in a strengthened friendship that can overcome challenges. Humans make mistakes on a daily, but it is important to realize these mistakes so that a solution can be made. It is not easy to realize these mistakes; this is where friendship takes its role. Friends are able to point out these mistakes. In the film, Racing with the Moon, Henry is the responsible friend, who is always there to help his problematic friend, Nicky. One of the main challenges that Harold has to face was his mother. Although their family is wealthy, and she buys Harold expensive gifts, she wants to change Harold into a “better” son. Harold does not want the luxurious life nor does he want to abide to his mother’s rules, but his mother forces him to drive a Hearse. At the beginning of the film, Harold was never rebellious towards his mother. However, by destroying her car, it shows that a part of Maude was passed onto Harold, since Maude was part of many protests. The fault that Maude exposes about Harold was that he is too much like death. Death is emptiness, and Harold’s personality is empty, missing all forms of courageous spirit, which is shown in the beginning of the film where he listens to his mother’s orders of finding a wife, without questioning her.
