Biological macromolecules are large macromolecules needed by all living organisms to sustain life. They can be found in plants and animals and are the foundations of life. Macromolecules are created when monomers, small molecules, come together through covalent bonding, thus forming polymers. This bonding process is known as dehydration synthesis, a chemical reaction that causes hydrogen from one monomers to bind with a hydroxyl group of another monomer. When this happen, water molecules are formed. They are 4 major biological macromolecules, which includes carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids.
