It is the time of the year when there is a nip in the air indicating Diwali is round the corner. With Diwali comes the lavish parties which are held almost on a regular basis during the period starting from Dussehra upto Diwali across India in all the big cities and metros. Indians mostly treat Diwali as an occasion to gamble. This stems from a legend in which Goddess Parvati played dice with her husband on the fourth day of Diwali and won, declaring that anyone who gambled on Diwali night would do well. Some Hindus believe Lakshmi the goddess of prosperity can be invoked through gambling. This belief among the revellers led to the card games which have become an integral part of Diwali parties .
