Elvis: The King of Rock and Roll On January 8th, 1935, the “King of Rock and Roll” was born in the city of Tupelo, Mississippi. Elvis Aron Presley was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley. Little did his parents know that Elvis would become one of the most famous artists of all time. From albums, concerts, to being a movie star, Elvis took the world by storm. The world may have not been ready for rock and roll, but Elvis paved the road for many great artists. Elvis Presley was born and raised during the Great Depression, so one could only imagine the things that he and his family had went through. The Great Depression left many families poor and hungry. Even though they were going through rough time their family kept their family values. When Elvis was around three years old his father, Vernon Presley, was arrested for forging a check and was sentenced to three years in jail. Luckily, he only served 8 months. During that time, his mother Gladys, took care of him all alone. She adored Elvis, and was always afraid that Elvis would get hurt, so she kept a very close eye on him. In 1946, Elvis asked his parents for a bike for Christmas, but his mother was too afraid that he would fall off the bike and get hurt that she convinced Elvis to get a guitar…show more content…
