This North American creature is known for its speed, stealth, and storage of food. Classified as Tamia’s. Which in Greek translates to “Stover.” The eastern chipmunk species found in eastern North American. It is the sole living member of the chipmunk. Subgenus Tamia’s, sometimes recognized as a separate genus. The eastern chipmunk is Tamia’s, stratus. How does the eastern chipmunk look? The eastern chipmunk is a very cute little animal. It’s almost like a squirrel. It ranges about 5-6 inches long and weighs about 3 ounces. The chipmunk is the size of a toilet paper roll. It’s a brownish red color. The way the eastern chipmunk defends itself is by using its teeth by biting. It also has Sharpe claws to defend itself. By them using their claws and teeth, it usually protects them. It’s not always a guarantee. Here is a lot of predators for the eastern chipmunk. They are tiny animals and bigger animals live off of them. Same on the predators are owls, foxes, raccoons, hawks, coyotes, and even other squirrels are one of the predators. This little animal has to protect itself from many animals. The eastern chipmunk is no in extinction. It has not lost its habitat, nor its food. It eats natural growing things such as seeds, and nuts, they really have not been overhunted.
