Drinking and driving is a problem. Even though driving intoxicated can be very deadly, many people still drive under the influence everyday. Drivers who are drunk are blamed for the loss of as many as 25,000 lives in highway crashes each year and hundreds of thousands of severe injuries. Most people over the age of 21 have witnessed (or experienced) the outward signs of heavy drinking: the stumbling walk, slurred words and memory lapses. Now imagine experiencing all of the side affects of alcohol while being behind the wheel. These side affects are because while you are taking “one” shot of vodka, the alcohol has already started to affect your brain chemistry by altering levels of neurotransmitters. There are many facts, consequences and risks about drunk driving. Drunk driving is against the law so why do so many people break the law and have one too many drinks? The consequences are also very serious. Sometimes people think they will never get caught drinking and driving but facts show that more and more people are getting pulled over. Surprisingly, some of the people that get pulled over are underage. In the last couple years drinking and driving has gone up dramatically and more people are doing it and they are starting young. Teens are seeing their peers and people on television having a good time so they try it themselves and get caught in something that they shouldn’t. In the future if drinking is driving is a problem hopefully people will get caught more and then they will have to stop drinking and driving. Everyone has a crime but no one needs to die over one mistake. Hopefully in years to come the risks, consequences and statistics of drunk driving will decrease and it will hardly be heard of
