Deoxyribonucleic acid profiling or just DNA profiling is technology that can be used to identify individuals by their DNA. The discovery of DNA profiling was in September 1984 by Alec Jeffrey, a geneticists from the University of Leicester in England, he was focusing to resolve immigration and paternity disputes. DNA profiling, known as STR analysis is very sensitive and only requires a few skin cells e.g. a line of hair, a drop of blood, a drop of saliva or the most common way, which is a fingerprint. Even though we are all unique in different ways most DNA is identical to other peoples, however specific regions known as “ polymorphic” vary highly between people, the only way two people can have the exact same DNA profile is if they are identical
