Density Lab Report Essay

Our experiment was born out of a curiosity to measure the density of each object. To start, we looked at the generally accepted figures of density for each object. This led us to think that metal, in most cases, should be more dense than the rest of our objects. We then began to decide how to verify or disprove these figures based on the differences in materials used from the benchmark objects. This allowed to form our question and begin our calculations on the density of each object. Each measurement is listed in the format (x)grams/centimeters3 ((y) milliliters, (z)grams). Before we started our calculations, we set out to find if metal is more or less dense than wood, marbles, water, and air. Our hypothesis was that metal would be more dense than wood and marbles, water, and air. We came to this conclusion by qualitatively testing the different objects and thinking that the metal seemed to be more compact molecularly for its weight.…show more content…
Therefore, we found the density of each object through our procedures. We first started with the solid objects: the smaller and larger marble, and the three metals. We then measured the volume of each of these objects by filling a graduated cylinder to a variable amount. Then we used a triple-beam balance to find the mass of all objects. We then measured the wood block’s volume by using a ruler. Next, we used a beaker to find the volume of water. Finally, we used a balloon to find the volume of
